Students of Journalism and Mass Communications have the option of conducting either a research thesis paper (“senior thesis”) or a research project (“senior project”) in their senior year. Senior theses and senior projects are very different from each other. This is the fundamental difference:
Senior Thesis is academic: scientific research into a problem related to journalism, mass communications, or media technologies. The research must include a literature review, articulating hypotheses, and conducting either systematic social surveying and/or experimentation.
Senior Project is practical: an audiovisual practical project, such as a documentary, animation, semi-fictional film or radio broadcast about a topic, place or person that can be considered important for contemporary society.
